pot

pot as in ceramics.... anyway, this is my first major assignment for my ceramics class. the requirements were to make a coil pot (constructed of coils, whether or not the coils were visible on the outside or were smoothed out was up to us) that was at least 16 inches high and had a "window looking through it, but without showing the interior of the figure" (so basically a tunnel). my tunnel doesnt go straight through, it goes down from about a third of the way down the pot to nearly the bottom, but there's an angle in the middle of the tunnel that i'm going to put a mirror at to allow the viewer to see through it. gotta fire it first, and possibly glaze it. not sure on the glaze yet. i'll post some better pics after i fire it. these i just snapped real quick before i had to run to class to turn it in.

I like it. I agree with whoever it was the posted on the flickr site. There's something subtly sexual about it.

maybe it's all the balls

no, but really, it kind of scares me. I think that's a compliment.

I may be actually on pot, but here's my interpretation. So there was this evil monster, partially of lizard origin (tale or claw coming out of the top), partially of ape. And after it tried to destroy the rainforest, millions of rainforest sprites made nature wrap it up in vines. Thus stopping it's destruction of the world's last great source of oxygen and 3 toed sloth pelts.

That pot reminds me of something out of the aliens movies. I can't explain it, but the pattern of the coils that seem to swallow up other objects into them is somehow creepy. You could do some awesome stuff with the glaze if you used contrasting colors for the balls etc.

I didn't as much see a torso in there as an abstract head of sorts from the one angle you used. Creepin me out man
